HISTORY OF THE WORLD II
The GAME Experience

THE Challenge

To celebrate the release of Hulu’s History of the World Part II, we needed to translate the show’s legendary, irreverent humor into a digital experience that lived beyond the screen. The goal was to engage fans with an interactive touchpoint that felt just as premium and hilarious as the show itself, encouraging them to spend meaningful time in Mel Brooks’ comedic universe.

The Idea

As the Creative Lead, Game Designer, and Art Director, I spearheaded the development of an interactive game that allowed users to "spring into the silliness" of history. I also handled part of the Illustration, ensuring every visual gag stayed true to the show's iconic aesthetic.

Navigating through mobile, web, and Xbox, players were guided through absurd historical recreations in a high-performance WebGL experience. We combined bespoke animation, custom music, and acute attention to detail to ensure the digital "craft" matched the show’s top-tier production value. This project was a true exercise in building a high-stakes visual system that felt like a natural, interactive extension of the series.

The RESULT

The engagement spoke for itself. Over 37,000 users dove into the game, with an average play time of 6 minutes triple the duration of comparable digital experiences. By blending game design with high-end illustration, we gave fans extra laughs and a deeper way to connect with the series.

The Process

Our workflow began with a deep dive into the show’s comedic DNA. I personally storyboarded every scene, mapping out the narrative beats and gags to ensure the interactive experience felt like a seamless "lost episode" of the series.

After finalizing the narrative, I took on a dual role: producing key assets while leading a team to create hundreds of hand-drawn illustrations. By managing the project like a traditional animation production, we scaled the artwork into a cohesive library without losing the "pixel-perfect" detail essential to the show’s humor.
